DIOR HAS BEAUTY DOWN TO A SCIENCE, thanks in part Dr. Neil Sadick, Dior’s global medical advisor. Dr. Sadick, who runs a private dermatology practice in New York, joined the Dior Beauty team four years ago and has been instrumental in the development of new scientific approaches to skincare.
“One thing I noticed as I traversed around the world, what was really missing, is that dermatologists and plastic surgeons were treating [patients] in their offices, but then sent them home and did not give them good maintenance programs,” said Dr. Sadick during a personal appearance at Saks Fifth Avenue in Dadeland.
The L’Or de Vie skincare line is one of the strongest antioxidant skincare products on the market today. It is derived from the grape vines of Chateau D’Yquem in the heart of Bordeaux, France. Scientists found that the nutrient-rich vines from this region contain powerful ingredients, which can be concentrated into a formula that encourages regeneration in skin.
“For the first time, we have a scientific product that slows down aging…slows down the genetics of aging, and also can decrease the incidence of skin cancer development,” said Dr. Sadick. The L’Or de Vie skincare line works via a cycle of revitalization, renewal and strengthening of the skin. SA

INJECTABLE FILLERS with longer lasting benefits are an attractive non-surgical option at The Center for Cosmetic Enhancement.
Today’s demanding lifestyle and hectic schedules leave little time for visits to the doctor for cosmetic enhancements, which is why more patients are turning to temporary fillers with longer lasting results such as Restylane and EVOLENCE®.
With the advent of minimally invasive options such as fillers, now available in the marketplace and becoming increasingly popular, more people are turning to injectable fillers for an effective alternative in restoring a smoother, more youthful-looking appearance. Research has found that many types of fillers categorized as temporary are proving to have longer lasting benefits in patients.
In the past decade, research has led to remarkable advances offering an array of treatment options to effectively rejuvenate a face from the inside out using a variety of compounds. The Center for Cosmetic Enhancement offers a full range of injectables and fillers, among them Restylane®, Juvederm, Perlane, Prevelle Silk, Botox, Radiance, and the newest, and perhaps most promising of all, EVOLENCE®.
Today’s dermal fillers offer a convenient option for reclaiming a youthful look by injecting the selected product at varying depths within the skin and soft tissue. Key to the success of these compounds is their ability to fill out facial imperfections such as wrinkles, creases and concave scars, while also enhancing the fullness, or volume and shape of facial tissue, which diminishes as we age. Which procedure is best for you will depend on what element of your appearance you are trying to improve.
Restylane® filler, which has proven to last longer than fat and collagen injections, can provide a long-lasting dramatic improvement in appearance far superior to collagen injections. Perlane is a Restylane analogue that is used as a deep filler to replace volume loss on the cheeks and jaw line. Composed of a biodegradable gel based on hyaluronic acid, the substance not only fills in lines and wrinkles but also adds moisture and lubrication to the skin, making it feel younger and more comfortable. The compound also can be used to shape facial contours and sculpt lips. New studies show that Restylane can last more than 18 months with an optimization treatment.
Another attractive option is EVOLENCE®. Approved by the FDA in June 2008, the revolutionary EVOLENCE® represents the new generation of dermal fillers. Made of naturally-sourced collagen that mimics the three-dimensional structure of natural skin collagen, the product does not require a pre-test, lasts a minimum of six months to more than a year and, due to its composition, minimizes bruising and swelling at the injection site.
Used alone or in combination, these injectables can soften creases in the forehead, frown line and crow’s feet area; raise the eyebrows; restore fullness and tightening to the cheekbones and areas beneath the eyelids; soften the deep folds on the side on the nose; and define and/or plump up the lip line. The jaw and neck can also be rejuvenated with these techniques.
At the Center for Cosmetic Enhancement, these fillers may be used in conjunction with a resurfacing procedure such as a laser treatment to achieve maximum results.
For patients who are not yet ready or who do not need traditional surgery, injectables are both a safe and cost-efficient alternative for refreshing your appearance immediately.
The Center for Cosmetic Enhancement offers South Floridians the latest in cosmetic procedures and alternatives to traditional plastic surgery. Treatments include Thermal Tissue Tightening (a non-surgical face lift using radio waves); Facial Rejuvenation; Photorejuvenation (using intense light to reduce the appearance of sun damage, birth marks and facial skin imperfections); numerous laser treatments (spider veins, vascular, resurfacing, pigmented lesions); photodynamic acne treatments; SmartLipo; tattoo removal; scar revision and fillers such as Botox, EVOLENCE®, Juvaderm, Perlane, Prevelle Silk, Restylane and many more. IN THE 1980s Elissa Margulies and husband Michael Ross founded Forget Me Not, a hat manufacturing company that revolutionized the junior market and became the trademark of the hit television show Blossom. Soon Forget Me Not was all the rage, sold in national catalogs and department stores. Eventually the couple sold the company and moved to Boulder, Colorado where Margulies discovered that the combination of high altitude and sun gave her fair complexion rosacea. She started looking for a hat that offered protection while hiking and playing outdoors. “The hats I found with the best coverage were just plain ugly. When I am outdoors…I want to look fabulous,” said a frustrated Margulies.
After researching the sun protection industry standards and learning about the fabrics and colors that offer the best protection, Margulies co-founded Physician Endorsed with her husband. She is the creative force behind the dynamic line of hats, sunglasses and accessories designed with both style and skin protection in mind. Her hats are tested and endorsed by an independent medical advisory board, rated UPF 50+, the equivalent to SPF 30. Named after places she has traveled, the designs look as exotic as they sound: St. Tropez, Provence, Martinique, Capri and Hamptons. Among her clients Margulies counts Paris Hilton, Heather Locklear, Teri Hatcher, Yoko Ono, Steven Tyler and Shirley McClaine. “Physician Endorsed provides a fashionable, functional, sun-safe alternative,” concludes Marguiles.

A NEW GENERATION of superstar plastic surgeons has given the profession a glamorous position in this new era of radical makeovers. What once was taboo has been released into the open. Cosmetic procedures used to be invasive, painful and highly guarded secrets reserved for celebrities and mature women who wanted to maintain their youthful appearance. That has forever changed. Cosmetic procedures today are ambulatory, comfortable and less invasive. This is a sign of a society that places a great deal of importance on physical beauty. Dr. Jhonny Salomon, M.D., FACS, understands the difficulty in defining beauty. “Throughout history philosophers and artists have tried to come up with a definition, but it changes according to the historical moment. The one thing that is true about beauty is that when you see it, you know it,” says the doctor. Dr. Salomon, a gracious, soft-spoken surgeon with impeccable looks is a renaissance man. He has traveled the world looking for inspiration and knowledge and has amassed an incredible art collection, part of which he displays at his new Medi Palace, a state of the art medical spa located in Coral Gables. He elevates the spa trend to a whole new level, with revolutionary procedures, accommodating access points, ultimate privacy and the comforts of home. The new location is a work of art in itself. Straight minimalist lines and sterile surroundings are splashed by notes of color from the Dr.’s personal art collection including works by Haitian artists Bernard Séjourné and Jean Claude Legagneur as well as paintings by Mexican artist Carlos Oviedo.
Upon arrival at The Medi Palace, created by architect Richard Johnson and designed by Johanne Saieh in collaboration with Dr. Salomon, you feel as one would in a Zen oasis. Medi Palace is the convergence of beauty and form, a place that allows our spirits to soar while we heal our bodies. It features separate waiting rooms, relaxation lounges, four laser treatment rooms, additional non-invasive treatment areas, a Botox® room strategically designed to let in natural light, a fully equipped operating theater that facilitates all surgery procedures, a recovery area and private administrative offices with a 360 degree view of sunny Miami.
The new spa is a haven where comfort meets technology. Natural light showers the rooms with crisp transparency that induces relaxation and well being. The staff is attentive and reserved, taking care of your needs without hesitation. Services include Botox, fillers such as Restylane, Juvederm and Radiesse, advanced cellulite removal, skin tightening, sun damage and fine wrinkle removal, vein removal, laser hair removal, a comprehensive nutritionist and wellness program, eight different types of massages and six different types of facials with top of the line skin products.
Dr. Salomon considers his work more than just clinical. He approaches surgery as an art form based on a holistic concept. “Plastic surgery is an art form to a certain degree with the knowledge that the human body is a lot more restrictive than any other art medium, and the results are based on medical components as well. I use the human body as a template for my work, but I am very respectful of the human body. I think I am an artist, but with a lot of reservation,” says Dr. Salomon about the relationship between art and the creation of beauty. A magna cum laude graduate from Boston University, Dr. Salomon is renowned for his “believable beauty” both on reconstructive and cosmetic patients. He has been featured on television shows including Miami Slice on Bravo and Plastic Surgery: Before and After on Discovery Health and donates his free time to Operation Smile to help, free of charge, children born with correctable birth defects. “I contribute to Operation Smile here and in other countries. It is something I really enjoy,” concludes Dr. Salomon.
Peace, beauty and comfort are elements that enhance our overall well being. This translates into a more fruitful life and better relationships with our loved ones, our professions and our surroundings. Medi Palace is a great environment to start healing our bodies and our souls. SA
